Most of us wonder what we could do if we tend to become the victim of accidents that result from the act of god. Though we can not bring the god to court and claim any compensation, insurance companies pay some amount of compensation even in these cases. Act of god is legal term to denote the events that go beyond human control, such as sudden storm or other natural disasters, for which none of us are responsible. This does not mean that people who put others in the dangers of the act of god can escape from the hands of law. These people are definitely liable for their negligence or carelessness. To site an example, the builder who has build the poor building which collapsed during a storm is liable though storm was an act of god for which none could be blamed.

The act of god has different impacts in different types of law. In tort law, the act of god is considered as an intervening cause, the absence of which would have avoided the cause or would have minimized the result of the liability. For example, if the earthquake did not happen the poorly constructed building would be still standing. But if one could foresee the result of unforeseeable causes, then those results are liable. This could be evident from this example where, the truck carrying explosive chemicals was burnt out by lightening. If the truck has been designed in such a way it could be spark proof, the event could be avoided. So in this case, the person who was careless in designing the truck is liable though the actual cause was the lightening.
